Meriwest Credit Union Awards Scholarships To Ten High School Students
SAN JOSE, Calif., February 2, 2006 – Meriwest Credit Union, one of Silicon Valley’s
largest financial institutions, has awarded scholarships to ten high school students for
its annual scholarship competition.
The first place winners are Kevin Baldwin, resident of San Jose and Senior at Leigh
High School; Andrew Souza, a resident of San Jose and a Junior at Branham High School;
Natasha Iyer, a resident of San Jose and a Sophomore at St. Francis High School, and
Aniruddha Deshmukh, a resident of Cupertino and a Freshman at
Bellarmine College Preparatory.
Scholarships of $250 were awarded to Mr. Deshmukh and Natasha Iyer, $500 was awarded to
Andrew Souza, and $1,000 was awarded to Kevin Baldwin.
Six others finished in second and third place and received scholarships of up to
$500, depending on their class level. The second place winners are Julie Rower, a
resident of Walnut Creek and a Senior at Northgate High School; Ariel Lewis, a
resident of Tucson, AZ and a Junior at Sabino High School; Jessica Poon, a
resident of Morgan Hill and a Sophomore at Live Oak High School and Jennifer
Jenks, a resident of San Jose and a Freshman at Oakwood High School.
The third place winners are Erik Anderson, a resident of Tucson, AZ and a Senior at
Tucson High Magnet School and Christina Cheng, a resident of Milbrae and a Junior at Mill High School.
Students were asked to prepare a 1,000-word essay on either of the following topics:
1) Is the Bay Area housing market going to continue to boom or will it bust?
or
2) How would you utilize a financial institution to insure you can own a home in the future?
A panel of five judges consisting of employees from Meriwest Credit Union evaluated
each entry on accuracy, content, thoroughness, clarity of expression, grammar, and composition.
"Awarding scholarships to deserving students allows us to further support the

Meriwest. "We are proud to provide students with an opportunity to earn money
toward education while learning the benefits of banking with a credit union,
and Meriwest in particular."
