Meriwest Credit Union Donates to the National Credit Union Foundation Disaster Relief Fund

SAN JOSE, CA, December 11, 2006 - Meriwest Credit Union, one of the largest credit unions serving Silicon Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area, donated more than $10,000 to the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) in support of credit union employees affected by Hurricane Katrina.
The donation from Meriwest is part of a nationwide effort by credit unions throughout the country to assist credit union employees and their families in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
"Like all Americans, we at Meriwest were deeply saddened by the terrible loss of life and the catastrophic damage caused by Hurricane Katrina," said Chris Owen, president and CEO of Meriwest Credit Union. "We hope that through our donation, Meriwest can bring a small measure of relief to credit union employees and their families as they continue to rebuild their lives. We are proud to be working with NCUF and assist them with their relief efforts."
"Words can't fully describe what our credit union friends on the Gulf Coast have lived through, and how the donation from Meriwest Credit Union will help change their lives," said Steve Bosack, Deputy Director of NCUF. "Thanks to generous donors like Meriwest Credit Union, our foundation was able to make nearly 1,400 grants to fulfill a wide range of needs for credit union employees and volunteers who were devastated by Hurricane Katrina."
During Katrina's immediate aftermath, NCUF grants paid for critical living essentials, including food, water and clothing. In the ongoing recovery, NCUF grants provided down-payment assistance that helped survivors finally move out of trailers and move back into homes in their own communities.
