Meriwest Credit Union Announces 2007 Annual Essay Competition for High School Students

SAN JOSE, CA - Meriwest Credit Union, one of the largest credit unions serving Silicon Valley, the San Francisco Bay Area and Tucson, Arizona, today announced that it will begin accepting entries to the Credit Union's 2007 Annual Essay Competition. Students have the opportunity to win up to $1,000 in cash by submitting a 1,000-word essay that answers the questions, "How important is good credit, and how will you manage it in your life after high school?"
Meriwest's Annual Essay Competition, now in its fifth year, is designed to support high school students who are planning to attend college next fall. The Credit Union will award a total of $4,000 for this year's competition.
This competition is open to students in 9th-12th Grades, ages 13 to 17. They must be Meriwest members who have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher. Participants also must live, attend school, or work in Santa Clara, San Mateo, Alameda, Contra Costa or San Francisco counties, or in Pima County, Arizona.
Students who do not reside, attend school, or work in these counties - but are existing Meriwest members or children of members - are also eligible to enter the competition.

The deadline to submit essays is 6:00 p.m. PT on Friday, December 21, 2007. Winners will be notified in early February.
